I purchased this for my grandson. A perfect gift. Excellent construction, very easy to use. A no-nonsense product with magnification that is ideal for a young person. A best buy product. I plan to purchase more as gifts and one for each car- good price and great quality.

I received the Celestron Outland 8x21 compact binoculars today from Amazon. I give you here my first impressions. The optics are about average or a little better for inexpensive binoculars ($35). The parallax alignment seems to be good. The diopter setting is off zero by a wide margin. The field of view is somewhat limited but not pipelike. The long eye relief seems to work well with glasses. The rubber around the right eye lens was not fitted properly and probably would not be water tight. The image clarity in the center of the field was quite good but field curvature reduced it substantially starting about one third out toward the edges. The binoculars seemed a little heavy for their size but had a solid feel. The focus worked smothly. The best feature was the eye relief. Other than that, they were unspectacular in this price range. I haven't decided whether to keep them. If I do we will see how they hold up.
Good deal for the price point

I bought these as a birthday gift for my daughter's 9th birthday. She requested binoculars so I wanted to give her something that was durable, water resistant and with decent optics, but not for $75-$100. These seem to meet all those criteria. I would be happy to use them for camping or at concerts. The only reason I am giving 4 stars and not 5 is because I just don't know how water resistant they are -- haven't been in the rain with them. I advised my daughter NOT to test them for water resistance!
It's the optics

I won't go into too much details. I have two of these, which I purchased after my son started getting interested in birds. The optics are simply bad. The alignment of the lenses is bad. Looking through the lenses I can clearly see that the components in the two units are in different positions. The lenses themselves are bad and impurities are easily visible. And the mechanisms are bad; when trying to focus on an object, most of the image remains out of focus. I even had one of the two units replaced by Amazon shortly after I received it and the replacement wasn't any better. Six months later I decided we had to replace them. They now sit in a drawer most of the time. I would be too embarrassed to even give them away to someone, knowing how bad they are.

These are the best binoculars I have ever owned. I am not a hunter or dedicated bird watcher, so do not have the experience to compare against high priced models, but the clarity and operation of these are top notch.
I have small hands and a small face and these are the only binoculars I have found that allow the eye sockets to be width adjusted so you get the 'single circle' view you are supposed to in binoculars.
The crispness of the view even at the longest distances is amazing. Great value, great product.
